Captain America: The Winter Soldier rewatch! CA Rewatch Page
- This is not about Bucky but does Steve Rogers speak French? Does that ever come up again??? Where did that come from in the first place?
- WOW OK, I've never read the full text assigned to Bucky's "museum exhibit" stand.
Bucky Barnes "museum exhibit" text:
James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes Born in 1916, Barnes gerw up the oldest child of four. An excellent athlete who also excelled in the classroom, Barnes enlisted in the Army shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor. After winter training at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin, Barnes and the rest of the 107th shipped out to the Italian front. Captured by Hydra troops later that fall, Barnes endured long periods of isolation, depravation and torture. But his will was strong. In an ironic twist of fate, his prison camp was liberated by none other than his childhood friend, Steve Rogers, now Captain America.
Reunited, Barnes and Rogers led Captain America's newly formed unit, The Howling Commandos. Barnes' marksmanship was invaluable as Rogers and his team destroyed Hydra bases and disrupted Nazi troop movements throughout the European Theater.
Some additional notes bc I can't help myself:
- I'm not fully convinced the copywriters for Bucky's exhibit stand have been to the Smithsonian.
- Also if they wanted the exhibit to be more believable, the replaying visual of Bucky and Steve standing/laughing together would have been granier!!!!
- They clearly cared about Peggy's appearance cos her recording is grainy! (still higher quality than I think should be considered realistic, but at least it was an attempt!)
- I kind of wish they'd just gotten an actual old lady to play modern-day Peggy rather than have that actor in old-person-makeup-and-prosthetics.
- Why would Peggy not be in a hospital in England???
BACK TO THE NOTES!
- Bucky's entrance for both CA1 and CA2 is fun, can't lie.
- So do we count Bucky mid-assassin trance as part of his character? Or do we just highlight it as a pain point in his guilt-ridden redemption arc?
- I lied, I have Sam notes now lol: I love him, he's so much more fun as a character lol
- Flashback scene!: Bucky's escorting Steve (seemingly on the way home from burying Steve's mom and last living parent). Bucky offers, in the roundabout way guys do, if Steve wants to stay with him.
- Their closeness is again exemplified by Bucky knowing where Steve's spare key is
- "I'm with you til the end of the line, pal." - my partner and I were talking about how Bucky was written in the MCU and both agreed he's written as "gay" but also as the old-fashioned type of man that preserves his emotions for his "boys" and not the women in his life
- So I'm about 80% through the movie and actually Bucky Barnes (outside of Winter Soldier but also including his appearance) really isn't in this movie very much...why did they name it like this.
- Okay so this was...actually a waste of a movie maybe. Like, it's called "Winter Soldier" but Bucky Barnes--and even Winter Soldier--is not really in this movie? This movie is more about how Steve met Sam rather than how Steve found Bucky.
- IDK if it's a bad movie, but I'm annoyed....
