Avengers End Game
Avengers: End Game Rewatch
CA Rewatch Page OK to be completely honest, I feel fully validated in skipping this one and don't think it would impact my intentions at all because according to Google, Bucky shows up in End Game for 10 minutes and 30 seconds. In a 3-hour movie, he's not even in a full 1% of it. HOWEVER, for completionism sake...I'm going to power through this. I did watch End Game when it first came out (maybe in Theatres? I don't remember) and I don't think I disliked it, but I do think I was probably over Marvel by that point. At this point in the rewatch, I'm also over Marvel (again), but I'm powering through because I said I would. (Don't look at me, TVD).
I might not take that many notes this time around though, because I think it will end up being just something I play in the background while I attempt to get a shitton of work done.
- OK I can't pretend...I thought I was done with Marvel but I can still be suckered into a high stakes movie. And since I have seen (almost) all of the predating movies, I still feel the stakes to some degree.
- I don't love what they did to Hulk's character. I feel like Banner's better as a "brooding" type.
- Conversely, "lost Thor" is so good as a sympathetic character.
- They really didn't give Hawkeye a single chance in these movies. Maybe he'd read better if he weren't surrounded by literal magic and serums and sci-fi Hulks. But he's literally just...a guy. And he really doesn't play off the other characters as well as Black Widow does. He feels like he should be in a rock'n'roll super hero opera. Or like his character should have evolved from 2012.
- Chill cocky Hulk still isn't doing it for me, ugh.
- Did they bring Paul Rudd into these movies because they actually liked him or because they're so sick of his general success and popularity? Ant-Man gets no respect and to be honest, his character truly does not command it.
- Why is Gamora's green makeup faded around her eyes? I'm sure it's not comfortable to have a full face of costume paint, but......surely Zoe Saldana was being paid enough to get some good facials now and again during and after filming, no?
- Good heavens, Bucky is NOT in this movie. This was false advertising (no it wasn't, he's not even on the cover).
- OK I know Capt America has super-serum or whatever, but I still find it really hard to believe that he's stronger than Thor? Or can even stand in the same fight as Thor? But maybe I'm confused. Is Thor just the equivalent to a normal human on some steroids?
- I get that everyone's coming back but some of these people are blipping right back in from Infinity War? Like the Wakandans should look more beat up, right?
- I like the idea that literally the entire battle is in a pause until Capt America whispers "Assemble" to what looks like miles-wide perimeter of people/aliens. I get it's effective for the movie. It's silly to me.
- Omg enough of this, where the fuck is Bucky lol.
- Tom Holland truly is a wonder as Spiderman.
- I just don't know if I believe Gamora would choose to fall in love with Quill without having experienced first-hand (and remembering) the Guardians storylines.
- So...where are they? Like geographically, on Earth.
- You'd think they'd cover the glove that glows? Like this isn't playground rules, you can play dirty here for the greater good.
- I have seen everyone except Bucky what is happening.
- Wait how does Dr. Strange still have powers without his stone?
- I think I may have seen Bucky jumping from the rain of fire, but honestly it was so blurry I really can't say.
- I know Captain Marvel's a cool badass character but IDK if Brie Larson has the charisma for being a superhero. I love her in her dramatic roles, I think she's a great actress. But I don't know if she's convincing as a "badass."
- How do all the Avengers know who each other are and know they're all on the same side? Like Thanos wouldn't have recruited humans for his own gain? Couldn't have scared them into loyalty?
- The female-only shot is cute but......still feels icky. Can't explain. Don't want to think about it too much. Same kind of icky feeling I get from remembering Black Widow only got her movie after her character was already canonically dead.
- OK I was trying to be funny (for myself) earlier, but literally where the fuck is Bucky. I so seriously could have skipped this movie.
- Not to nitpick but if Tony has the stones, why can't he heal himself afterwards? Same question goes for Thanos and Hulk using them.
- Did I miss something or is Bucky's one and only shot in this movie among the group flyover shot at Tony's funeral?
- Are you fucking kidding me, Bucky's just in Steve's last shot? This was so stupid.
- OK they get a little callback to the first movie "Don't do anything stupid until I get back." "How can I? You're taking all the stupid with you."
- I'm confused, can Steve Rogers just...choose to age? Like is he technically supposed to be aging this whole time, just slower than everyone else? Or he's aging at a regular pace just super strong?
- I know Sam's an important character but I'm annoyed that Bucky isn't the one who gets his last conversation with Steve.
- I guess I understand why Sam would be Capt America's successor (maybe) but Bucky definitely didn't know that before he told Sam to go talk to Steve first. I'm...this is a fine scene, probably. But from the perspective of specifically watching this three-hour-effing-movie for Bucky Barnes, I'm feeling a little sore.
- I have many issues with Steve staying in the 1940s (like how did this not wildly impact some things like kids being born and not born?) but also, he stayed in the 1940s and didn't save Bucky? I know that also would've had unforeseen impacts on the future but, if you're already throwing caution to the wind? Peggy Carter was in the military. Steve's presence throughout her life may have unwittingly impacted the Avengers too.
- Literally why did I watch this, it was so unnecessary lol. But I guess I had fun. I can't say it was a bad movie, at least.
